There are many reasons to hate Canada, but I think this one tops the list. The Canadian Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans has approved the inhumane slaughter of 975,000 harp seals. They blame these seals on the population decrease of cod. Fucking cod. They don�t want to admit the truth, which would be their mismanagement of their fishing industries. They are blaming the seals for what is obviously the over-fishing by humans. Not only that, but have they stopped to consider the amount of the pollution in these waters? This bloodshed will take place over a span of 3 years. In 2002, 275,000 seals were set to be killed, yet the final tally was 307,000. 350,00 will be killed in the next 2 years, and 275,000 in the 3rd year. Thank God they don�t have any math skills because they�d see that they are coming up 18,000 short. Not only are they cruel enough to do something this hideous, but they can�t even follow their own rules. I can�t even begin to tell you how much this infuriates me. First of all, how the hell do they know there is a deficiency in cod? Do they go down, explore the entire ocean and count them one by one? Maybe they could keep better track of they joined the 21st century and set up cod farms. That idea would certainly save the lives of nearly one million seals. I encourage you to not only write to the Canadian government (be sure to use small words since they are not very educated), but please boycott cod. If they don�t have a high demand for cod, they won�t have any reason to kill off these seals. Too many of these seals are being killed for their fur, and now this.
